Jianzhong Wu joined Cardiff University as a Lecturer in June 2008 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2013, Reader in 2014 and Professor in 2015. His previous career included 2 years as Research Fellow in the University of Manchester, 1 year as Associate Professor, and 2 years as Research Associate in Tianjin University.
He is presently the Head of School of Engineering, Cardiff University.
His research focuses on Smart Grid and Multi-Vector Energy Systems. He has contributed to more than 50 EC, EPSRC and industry funded projects as a PI or a Co-I. He has published more than 240 peer-reviewed papers, including 1 ESI Hot Paper, 7 ESI Highly Cited Papers (@April 2020) and 1 paper published in Nature Energy (Impact factor 54). He is a co-author of books “Smart Grid: Technology and Applications” (2012, Wiley), “Smart Electricity Distribution Networks” (2017, CRC) and “The Future of Gas Networks” (2019, Springer).
He is a Co-Director of INCOSE UK Energy Systems Interest Group, Co-Director of the £18m UK Energy Research Centre, a Co-Director of the £5m EPSRC Supergen Energy Networks Hub, and co-PI of the £24.5m WEFO funded FLEXIS project investigating future integrated energy systems. He is also Co-I of a £5m EPSRC project on Multi-Scale Infrastructure Systems Analytics, the £36m Active Building Centre, and the £12m Energy Revolution Consortium. He is a member of Wales Smart Energy System Group, Northern Power Grid Technical Panel of ED2 Business plan, and the Scottish Power Energy Networks Strategic Stakeholder Panel for England and Wales.
He is President of the UK Branch of China Electrotechnical Society, an Associate Editor of Applied Energy (Impact Factor: 8.426), Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IET Energy Systems Integration, and the Director of International UNiLAB on Synergies between Energy Networks.
